Student answer (Band 6.5)

There has been an ongoing debate about whether the government should make laws regarding the recycling of waste. Although some individuals argue that most of the garbage is not recycled. I am strongly of the opinion that it would be an overwhelmingly positive step. This essay will explain why I hold this view.

The first and perhaps the most sinificant reason is that recycling is benefical from all aspects most importantly to control over pollution. In other words, it would also helpful in economy growth by reducing the excessive use of new materials which requires alot of budget. This means that legal requirement has become necessary to overcome these issues. A clear illustration of this is that Astonia is considered one of the cleanest country across the globe resultantly, tourism is at peak there which ultimately helpful in economy growth. Therefore, it is evident that having laws regarding this people will be more conscious.

Equally important is the fact that eco-friendly environment will provide quality life. Furthermore, clean and clear environment ensure healthy life which consequently leads to healthy minds.Owing to this, individuals can perform their duities more efficiently.

Admittedly, creating new laws can be very challenging to the government because new force will be needed to enforce these laws and recycling centres wil be installed which require a alot of budget. However, potential drawbacks are manageable and don not overshadow the substantial benefits.

To conclude, despite the financial challenges associated with the introducing the laws regarding recycling, I firmly believe that advantages considerably outweigh the disadvantages. Considering the long-term benefits, this is undoubtedly the most practical and sustainable approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding environmental benefits and economic growth are relevant, though the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of 'Astonia' is vague and lacks specific detail to fully support the argument. While the essay acknowledges the counter-argument regarding financial challenges, the explanation could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the ideas are relevant and the position is consistent, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5, which rounds to 6.0 based on the descriptors for development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and perhaps the most significant reason', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the cohesion is not always smooth, placing it firmly in the Band 6 range.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'overwhelmingly positive', 'sustainable approach', and 'excessive use'. However, there are several spelling errors ('sinificant', 'benefical', 'duities', 'wil') and some awkward collocations ('control over pollution', 'tourism is at peak'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word choice and better proofreading. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning but lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('new materials which requires', 'cleanest country... resultantly, tourism is at peak') and punctuation (missing commas, sentence fragments). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'having laws regarding this people will be more conscious'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. The control of grammar is inconsistent, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.
