Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 144 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the prompt regarding legal requirements for recycling, the arguments are severely underdeveloped and incomplete. The text ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence, meaning the conclusion and a full discussion of the topic are missing. Because the response is substantially under-length and lacks a coherent structure or full development of the prompt's requirements, it falls into the lower band range for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a logical progression of ideas. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'Firstly', the paragraphing is ineffective, and the text is fragmented. The abrupt ending prevents the establishment of a clear overall structure. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked smoothly using a variety of cohesive devices rather than repetitive or mechanical transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies. For example, the word 'pensive' is used incorrectly in the context of pollution, and 'fragments' is used repeatedly in an unnatural way. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'make the rule' instead of 'enact legislation' or 'implement regulations'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using words in their correct context. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will help you convey your arguments more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('government make the rule'), tense usage ('who didn't recycled'), and sentence structure. The essay relies on simple sentence patterns, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty or incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for basic errors like subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
