Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is undeniable that pollution has become a pensive concern in this modern world. In this regards, some people believe that not enough of the waste from houses is recycled whereas others say that the only way to incline recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement. I agree to a large extent with this notion due to many reasons which will outline in forthcoming fragments with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are several benefits of laws to make people recycle more of their waste. Firstly, laws made by government create a fear of fines in the people. To explain it, local individuals give priority to recycling method to avoid the impose of high amount of fines. To illustrate, surveys are conducted restrictions to follow rules conducted by government helps to aware people about their responsibility towards the nature. Secondly, it helps to reduce the level of pollution in the country. To elaborate it, the reduction of waste and shifting to paper bags and cloth bags positively impact the society. For example, in some developed countries or in big cities different color coded dustbins are present which helps to differ the waste. Moreover, this created a sense of responsibility among local people which directly leads to the country development while adoption of sustainable practices helps to protect the future generations from additional depletion.

However, the strict laws imposed by governments not always increase recycling. First and foremost, before setting rules and regulations one should organized awareness campaigns especially in backward areas. Moreover, provide educations about the waste recycling and also by giving economic rewards directly encourage other people to recycling most of their waste.

To conclude, although there are several benefits in approval of latter point of view such as organize survey and awareness campaigns yet according to me the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it legal requirement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the effectiveness of legal mandates versus awareness campaigns are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the example provided about 'surveys' and 'restrictions' is unclear and does not effectively support the point about government responsibility. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explained to reach a higher band. The conclusion reiterates the stance, but the transition between the benefits of laws and the counter-argument regarding awareness could be more nuanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Firstly', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some of these devices are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'surveys are conducted restrictions to follow rules conducted by government helps to aware people', where the syntax obscures the logical connection between ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the flow within paragraphs could be improved by smoother transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'pensive concern' is an incorrect usage of 'pensive', and 'incline recycling' is not the standard collocation for increasing recycling rates. Phrases like 'the impose of high amount of fines' and 'differ the waste' demonstrate a lack of precision. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for a higher band. The student attempts to use more academic language, but the execution is often imprecise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'which will outline in forthcoming fragments' (passive voice error), 'helps to aware people' (incorrect verb form), and 'one should organized' (incorrect tense). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often clunky. While the errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to suggest that the student has not yet mastered complex sentence construction, keeping the score in the 6.0 range.
