Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is an undeniable fact that recycling plays an important role to keep environment clean and safe. many people gives their waste for recycling but they find that the waste is not actually recycled. People believe that to protect the nature government should implement some strict rules regarding to recycle the waste. I largely believe that laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste.

To begin with, many people are using plastic items or non-biodegradable products in their daily life and ignores the after effect of using those products. There are many companies that use more synthetic product and throw those waste near the rivers or on a plane grounds. Many people throws reusable items while traveling in the nature or from the car. In addition, government should make law to fine people that mix recyclable and non-recyclable waste, as a result people will stop mixing the waste that can't be recycled. Government should make rules for the companies which uses the synthetic materials, as a result companies will limit the synthetic product and switch to non-synthetic products.

Government should start the campaigns to educate and spread awareness in the society. Some people do not recycle because of lack of knowledge regarding environment pollutions. Government should provide separate bins to through different types of waste. Government should give reward during waste collecting campaigns. There should be schemes which provide the money price for collecting the waste from the surroundings. Government should make law to use biodegradable items in daily life.

To conclude, I believe that long-term recycling habit is beneficial for both nature and human.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that laws are necessary. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for government intervention, such as fining those who mix waste, the arguments are occasionally repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the second paragraph lists several issues (plastic use, littering, company waste) without fully exploring the 'extent' to which laws are the primary solution versus other methods like education. To reach a higher band, ensure each main idea is supported by a specific, well-explained example or a logical consequence that directly links back to the necessity of legislation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'Government should'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing (e.g., using pronouns or synonyms to avoid repeating 'government' or 'waste'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the need for laws and the need for education in the third paragraph is somewhat abrupt.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'waste', 'products', and 'rules'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'on a plane grounds' (likely meaning 'open ground') and 'money price' (which should be 'monetary incentive' or 'financial reward'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental policy, such as 'sustainability', 'legislative measures', 'mandatory recycling schemes', or 'environmental degradation'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help make your writing more engaging.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people gives', 'companies which uses') and article usage (e.g., 'keep environment clean'). There are also issues with prepositional phrases, such as 'regarding to recycle'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Attempting more complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
