Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. Furthermore, the content is largely off-topic. While the prompt asks about the necessity of laws for recycling, the essay shifts focus to land use, housing, and endangered species. The introduction includes a copy-pasted instruction segment rather than a clear thesis statement. Because the response does not address the core question regarding recycling legislation and is severely underdeveloped, it does not meet the requirements for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'as the result' instead of 'as a result'. The final paragraph is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which disrupts the overall flow and structure of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'resisdence' for residence, 'reprocessed' for recycled, and 'sue to' for due to. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use academic collocations appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Few individual demand'), article usage, and sentence structure. The essay relies mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at complex structures are often faulty or incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. These errors frequently impede the reader's understanding.
