Student answer (Band 7.0)

In this modern era, there is an ongoing debate that people are not recycling their waste produced in their homes. Many individuals believe that if government make strict laws for recycling, only then people will recycle as much as possible. This essay will demonstrate why governments should implement laws to promote household recycling.

To begin with, one of the major reason why the states should make legislations for recycling is that it will promote awareness among citizens for recycling. People are tend to be lazy nowadays, which makes mindset to not reuse products and they just thought the trash in dustbin. If a law are implemented, people might recycling more and more due to punishment. For example, many Asian countries making strict laws for recycling, which eventually making their environment more healthy rather than past few decades. Therefore, making rules for recycling might offer positive changes in a country.

Moreover, recycle laws can create long-term environmental responsibility. When recycling becomes a legal requirement, people gradually accept it as part of their daily life. For instance, countries with mandatory recycling policies often report higher public participation than those relying only on voluntary campaigns. Therefore, laws contribute to cleaner communities and a more sustainable future.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that laws are essential to encourage people to recycle more of their waste. Legal measures ensure greater public participation, discourage irresponsible waste disposal, and help develop long-term environmentally responsible habits. Therefore, governments should enforce recycling regulations to protect the environment and promote a more sustainable future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of legal requirements for recycling. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, particularly in the second body paragraph regarding long-term responsibility. However, the development is somewhat brief. While the essay covers the topic well, the supporting examples, such as the reference to 'many Asian countries', are quite general and lack specific detail. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to provide more concrete evidence or nuanced explanations to fully extend their arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a central theme. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor grammatical errors that affect the cohesion of specific sentences, such as 'People are tend to be lazy'. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'legislations', 'mandatory recycling policies', and 'sustainable future'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'thought the trash in dustbin' (instead of 'threw the trash in the bin') and 'making their environment more healthy' (instead of 'healthier'). The range is sufficient for the task, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the overall quality. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('if government make', 'a law are implemented') and incorrect verb forms ('People are tend to be lazy', 'many Asian countries making'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, as these errors occur frequently throughout the text.
