Student answer (Band 6.0)
Task 2
Some people belived that not enough of the garbage from home is recycled. According to them, the law makers should have to make a legal requirement to increase recycling. to this essay, I agree with this statement up to large extent and I largely agree with this statement, this essay will discuss the reasons with examples.
To start with, the government should make laws and fine for individuals who donot obey the rules. The laws should based on types of waste, for example, law in Japan, there are days on which different type of waste are collected from home. If on Monday is for recycled waste if person throw other waste apart from recycled garbage, person will get fine. Apart from this, due to lack of knowledge people mix wet, dry and plastic waste. So the school must start teach to student, how to identify the type of garbage, like plastic are recycled, of other garbage is destroyed.
Moving further, the law makers should encourage the individuals to sort the type of waste. The camps and mass media should spread the information and ads to aware the
community. For example, in CANADA
vending machines are unstalled on
stores where they can get the
point after putting the bottles, cans
in vending machine, so they can get
discounts on next purchasing. On the
other hand, it is society's responsibility &
to sort the waste and throw it in
bin, like wet garbage in blue bin, and
for dry waste, throw it in green bin.
So the recyled process focused on
recycling rather than sorting items.
To conclude, Although higher authorities
are providing funds and education on recycling
process and yet I believe individuals are equally
responsible as government, for the
slow process for recycling the waste.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of government legislation in recycling. The position is clear, though the introduction is repetitive and slightly confusing in its phrasing. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of fines in Japan and incentive programs in Canada. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion that schools should teach students is a good idea but is not fully linked back to the core argument of legal requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports the central thesis and provides more depth in the explanation of how laws specifically solve the problem.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Moving further', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the government's role and the individual's responsibility is a bit abrupt. The flow between sentences is generally functional, but the essay would benefit from more sophisticated transitions to improve the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'unstalled on stores' instead of 'installed in stores' and 'get the point' instead of 'earn points'. The repetition of words like 'garbage' and 'waste' also limits the lexical variety. While the meaning is generally clear, the student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations. To improve, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental policy and waste management.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('laws should based on'), article usage ('in CANADA'), and tense inconsistencies ('Some people belived'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that articles are used appropriately in context.
