Student answer (Band 6.0)

A section of individuals say that most of the garbage collected from houses is not going through recycling process. By the assist of the government action this can be possible. I partly agree with this statement, because not only with the help of higher authorities rules this issue can be solve, but also the natives people should took initiatives such as civil sense, and environment concern camps can be helpful for this.

On the one hand, I agree that people of the nation should need to have civil sense, as they know how to use recyclable things. To elaborate it, in schools teachers an parents should teach young ones that how to use recyclable things such as jute bags, plastic bottles, and clothes. By this children will get the knowledge and civil sense and they use it wisely. In addition people should also or organize environment related camps so that more people can become aware about the reusable things and the harm if they use it once. For example, in New Zealand many public authorities organize environmental friendly camps with local donations every year on environment day. Consequently, it improve awareness and help to reduce pollution as many people become aware.

On the other hand, why government should make legal rules and requirements because some people do not worry about environment. As many people use things once and throw them into garbage after knowing that it can be use again. For such kind of people government should punish with high penalties. For instance, in Japan if someone through garbage without rules government punish with money fine. Thus by these punishments people will understand the importance of reusable things and use it wisely and prevent environment from pollution.

In conclusion, government legal rules can not only help to increase recycle, but people awareness and initiatives also play crucial role to mitigate waste and increase recycle process.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that balances government intervention with individual responsibility. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of New Zealand and Japan. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on 'civil sense' could be more deeply explored to explain how it specifically leads to higher recycling rates. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. Overall, the response covers the requirements well, but would benefit from more depth and nuance in the supporting arguments to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. There are also instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the sentence 'By this children will get the knowledge and civil sense and they use it wisely', where the pronoun reference is a bit vague. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'recyclable', 'pollution', and 'mitigate'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'By the assist of the government action' (should be 'With the assistance of government action') and 'natives people' (should be 'local citizens'). The repetition of basic terms like 'things' and 'garbage' suggests a need for more varied and precise synonyms to improve the overall sophistication of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'this issue can be solve' (should be 'solved'), 'teachers an parents' (should be 'and'), and 'if someone through garbage' (should be 'throws'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the writer attempts complex structures, these are often where the errors are most prominent. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
