Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing discussion regarding the home waste recycling being not completed enough and the single way to cope up with this matter is to make it a legal requirement. I firmly believe that laws are an essential requirement to enforce recycling; however, there are multiple other methods to overcome this matter.

People argue that society waste recycling can only be enforceable through legal means, They believe changing and adding articles and sections regarding recycling can make it possible. In this way people get bind to the law and start the practice. For example in countries like Japan and Germany, it is legal to throw recycle able waste and in this way they implied it in their country.

There are multiple methods to ensure that home wastes are recycled. This includes creating awareness among society individuals, starting recycling campaign, and educating it in academic institutions. The assurance can also be implied by installing recycling plants at public places, awarding peoples who follow the procedures and making it a way of earning. Thus through such ways, we can increase the recycling of home wastes. For example, in Germany, recycling is being taught to students, regular awareness sessions are conducted at different levels and providing money in return to waste.

Secondly, only relying a legal requirement would not be enough specifically in third world countries where laws are not being implemented standardly on grounds.

In conclusion, making recycling legal responsibility is a positive initiative; however, for real time application, other methods to increase the recycling process of waste must be implemented and legality can might be option in specific countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that laws are helpful but not the sole solution. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Germany and Japan. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the argument regarding 'third world countries' is a bit underdeveloped and lacks specific detail. While the position is consistent, the explanation of why laws might be insufficient could be more robust to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the discussion of legal requirements from alternative methods. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'For example', 'Thus', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. The progression of ideas is logical, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'legal requirement', 'enforceable', and 'academic institutions'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cope up with this matter' (should be 'cope with'), 'society waste' (should be 'household waste'), and 'implied it in their country' (should be 'implemented'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the range and precision of the language used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'recycling being not completed enough', 'people get bind to the law' (should be 'bound'), and 'legality can might be option'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph ('legal means, They believe'). While the errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs.
