Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both legislation and education as methods to increase recycling. The position is clear, though the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the essay touches on the necessity of laws, the arguments regarding 'facilities' and 'education' are a bit repetitive and lack depth. The conclusion summarizes the points, but the essay would benefit from more specific examples or a more nuanced exploration of why laws are or are not the only solution. The ideas are relevant, but the overall development is basic, placing it in the mid-range for task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In Conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In this way we can increase the recycling'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which provides a coherent structure overall.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'environmental cleanses' instead of 'environmental awareness' or 'cleanliness', and 'legal law' which is redundant. The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'legislation', 'utilization', and 'productive manner', but the overall range is limited. Frequent errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'sperate' (separate) and 'recycle' used as a noun or adjective incorrectly, hinder the sophistication of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('household didn't do recycle'), tense inconsistencies ('as they will doing'), and missing articles or incorrect word forms ('take i recycling', 'sperate the waste'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally clear, the persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score. More attention to proofreading for basic syntax is required.
