Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but fails to develop the argument sufficiently. While you state a clear position, the supporting ideas are repetitive and lack specific evidence or logical depth. For instance, you mention that recycling reduces waste in landfills, but you do not explain how legal requirements would specifically achieve this or why voluntary measures are insufficient. The essay relies on vague assertions, such as 'human health is important,' without connecting this to the topic of recycling laws. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-explained point that directly supports your thesis, rather than restating the same general ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. There is significant repetition of phrases, such as 'recycling should be compulsory' and 'reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills,' which appears in both the introduction and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'Although this viewpoint may seem valid extent,' which is grammatically incomplete and lacks logical flow. The transition between paragraphs is abrupt, and the final conclusion does not effectively summarise the arguments presented, as it introduces a vague call to action rather than synthesising your main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently reuse basic terms like 'people,' 'recycling,' and 'viewpoint' without demonstrating a range of synonyms or more sophisticated academic collocations. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'border' (likely meant 'broader context') and 'do not waste of water support,' which is unintelligible. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental policy and government legislation, and ensure that your word choices are precise and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('several people claim... has become'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures ('This evident from various studies and real life example have shown'). You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
