Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth for an academic essay. The structure is fragmented, particularly the use of bullet points, which is not appropriate for IELTS Task 2. You touch upon the need for laws and provide examples of countries with strict regulations, but the explanation of how these laws specifically increase recycling rates is superficial. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed reasoning and ensure the essay is written in full paragraphs rather than list formats.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. The use of bullet points disrupts the flow of the argument and prevents the development of a cohesive essay structure. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; transitions between sentences are often abrupt or missing. For example, the jump from the need for laws to specific examples of countries is sudden. Paragraphing is not used effectively, as the response is broken into short, disjointed sections rather than a standard introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. You need to use linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'undenible', 'responisiblity', 'realted', 'municiplies', and 'survillance'. Word choice is often imprecise, such as 'unfollow' instead of 'disobey' or 'ignore', and 'raw feed' instead of 'compost' or 'organic fertilizer'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'segregate' and 'cctv', the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. You should focus on learning collocations and ensuring that you use words in their correct grammatical form to improve precision and clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('Citizen must be use'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation. For instance, 'In some try to unfollow or avid the rule can be punish with hard fined and punishment' is grammatically incoherent. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures and struggle with complex forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect pluralization.
