Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of government and legislation in recycling. However, the development of ideas is limited. The essay relies on repetitive statements about the importance of recycling and the need for government intervention without providing specific examples or a nuanced exploration of the 'extent' to which laws are necessary. The position is clear but lacks depth, and the arguments are somewhat superficial. To improve, you should explore the potential drawbacks of mandatory laws or compare them with alternative strategies like educational campaigns, providing concrete evidence or logical reasoning to support your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphing is inconsistent, with several very short paragraphs that do not follow a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'in my opinion' and 'it is'. The flow between sentences is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect your ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'big issue', 'take care of it', and 'make it happen' are too informal and lack the precision required for an academic essay. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'accouring' (occurring) and 'there' instead of 'their'. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to environmental issues and government policy, and pay closer attention to correct collocations and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'They can done it'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending with incorrect punctuation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of modal verbs before attempting more complex structures.
