Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people declares that there is not enough waste from home is recycled. They said that government should make it legal requirement to improve the productivity of the recycling. I believe that there should be a law which makes people to recycle more of their waste. Thus, this will be discussed in this essay.

In today's era, people believe that some residents are not providing enough waste from home for recycling. There are few reason behind that. Firstly, they throw the household waste in street or nearby their home which lead health related issues. Secondly, some people also put their waste into water, for instance, people often throw the toilet paper into washroom right after flushing. It can create a problem in drainage and also for water bodies.

I do agree that governments should take strict and beneficial action towards their citizen which can makes people to submit their garbage for recycling. Government should provide small amount of money for recycling the bottles and cans. This will lead people to recycle over throwing on other place. There are several countries like Germany, France, Italy and UK had already implimented and results for clean and safe environment in their country. These countries are providing 0.50 cents for each bottle. They had also placed a vending machine for dispose in each supermarkets. Additionally, the people who are not disposing the waste government should take strict action on them and should charge large amount of fine to avoid the same mistakes.

In conclusion, Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement. There are several points discussed in this essay to increase recycling via different steps.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether governments should make recycling a legal requirement. The writer presents a clear personal position ('I believe that there should be a law which makes people to recycle more of their waste'). However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs is somewhat limited and contains tangential points. For instance, the second paragraph discusses littering and putting toilet paper into the water drainage system, which diverges slightly from the core topic of household waste recycling. Furthermore, some arguments lack deep extension, and the conclusion merely restates the prompt and the essay outline rather than synthesising the main points. Consequently, the task response aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear overall structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, logical progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts in topic and mechanical cohesive devices. For instance, the transition between discussing drainage problems and introducing governmental action is overly simplistic. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of pronouns without distinct antecedents. Paragraphing is attempted, but the content within the paragraphs lacks a tight thematic unity. These features place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant terms such as 'productivity', 'drainage', 'vending machine', and 'fine'. However, there are numerous lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text. Examples include 'Some people declares' (subject-verb agreement), 'providing enough waste' (inappropriate collocation), 'over throwing on other place', and 'implimented'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but noticeable errors in word choice and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 5.0 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I do agree that governments should take strict and beneficial action towards their citizen which can makes people to submit their garbage for recycling.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that impede clarity. Notable mistakes include basic subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people declares', 'countries like Germany, France, Italy and UK had already implimented'), incorrect verb forms ('makes people to submit'), and missing articles or prepositions ('results for clean and safe environment'). Due to these persistent errors across both simple and complex sentences, a Band 5.0 is awarded.
