Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by presenting a partial agreement stance, discussing both the necessity of laws and the importance of education and awareness. A position is discernible throughout the response, and relevant ideas are introduced, such as fines for littering and the need for guidance. However, the development of these ideas is limited and frequently hindered by confusing phrasing and repetition. For instance, the argument regarding legal requirements is somewhat muddled by expressions like 'household not waste from homes is recycled'. While the prompt's core debate is engaged with, the lack of fully elaborated examples and the somewhat repetitive structure prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed, corresponding to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some overall attempt at structure. However, there is a lack of clear progression throughout the essay. Transitional phrases like 'To commence with' and 'Moving further ahead' are used, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by fragmented sentences and repetitive points. For example, the second body paragraph largely reiterates the arguments about laws and education made in the first body paragraph. Additionally, referencing and cohesive devices are often awkward or inaccurate, leading to mechanical and disjointed transitions between sentences. This aligns with the Band 5 descriptor for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling throughout the essay. Examples include 'Nowdays', 'resident', 'statment', 'eduaction', 'nesscesary', 'strictr', 'ecyclng', 'seperates', 'insteasd', 'way', 'require', 'maerials', 'fell', 'invironment', 'intrustion', and 'recyle'. While the student attempts some less common topical vocabulary like 'legal requirement', 'pollution', and 'awareness', inaccurate word forms and spelling mistakes ('proprer', 'invironment') cause significant difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. These limitations place the lexical resource firmly at a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the presence of some minimally adequate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The student demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty or ungrammatical. There are numerous severe grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'many resident believe that , large amount of household not waste from homes is recycled', 'laws can encourages', 'household are require to need', and 'if a person get the garbage into the roadside ,they pay a lot of amount'. Punctuation is also problematic, characterised by pervasive spacing errors around commas. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning, reflecting the descriptors for Band 4.0.
