Student answer (Band 5.0)

The surge in pollution, people are forced to pay attention on recycling of waste, Because of this majority of community have been offering governments to make recycling a legal and mandatory activity for every citizen. In my opinion it is a great initiative.

One of the reason, is the amount of waste material on this planet is extremely high, wether in the oceans or on the land, earth is filled with trash and vague materials. If governments take the responsibility of managing waste and make it compulsory for every individual to clean it and refurbish it, then people will take it seriously and they will invest their time in improving this globe.

Furthermore, why lawmakers should make this law as a part of constitution, because it will maximise the speed of whole refurbishment process. If these various types of movements are backed by authorities that will result in advertisements of these movements, also more people will volunteer for these initiatives. Moreover, all these will lead us to the final steps, because with the support of governments whole nation knows about the recycling of wastage. Now whole country will work as team to reduce the amount rubbish in country. Hence, other nations will take it as inspiration and eventually will try to clean whole planet with the help of recycling.

In conclusion, this initiative is a great way to tackle with the problem of waste management and without the help of governments it seems like a difficult challenge, but with their help it is eventually possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the task by stating a clear position that governments should make recycling a legal requirement. Main ideas are presented, such as the high amount of waste and the acceleration of the recycling process with state backing. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph where the notion of government support is reiterated without introducing distinct new sub-arguments. The conclusion restates the position adequately. Overall, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the task, earning a band score of 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a basic structure. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Hence', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately, as seen in the phrase 'Furthermore, why lawmakers should make this law as a part of constitution, because...'. Paragraphing is present, but internal logical progression is occasionally disrupted by run-on sentences and punctuation issues, such as comma splices like 'The surge in pollution, people are forced to pay attention...'. These factors limit the overall coherence to a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about pollution and waste management. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices, awkward collocations, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'wether' instead of 'whether', 'vague materials' instead of 'waste materials', and 'amount rubbish' instead of 'amount of rubbish'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and attempts at less common words result in frequent inaccuracies that occasionally strain the reader, placing this performance at a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence forms. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors including incorrect punctuation, comma splices, missing prepositions, and structural awkwardness, such as 'people are forced to pay attention on recycling' and 'One of the reason, is the amount...'. Clauses are frequently linked incorrectly, and capitalization errors occur mid-sentence. While the meaning is generally retrievable despite the frequent errors, the high frequency of basic and complex structural mistakes prevents the score from rising above a band 5.0.
