Student answer (Band 5.0)

Recycling is one of the methods used to manage wastes from home. Some believes that mostly waste in homes are not recycled, while others said governments should make legal laws to increase the process of recycling. Recycling from wastes can be helpul specially for productivity and quality of life.

To commence with, recycling plays a significant roles in our society. People can recreate many things from waste products. Recycling is very helpful to reuse products, also it does not interfere with climate. In addition, recycling sometimes become artistic and people loved to use that products as a decoration pieces. In this way, reuse of different products brings productivity. For instance, in Pakistan households, people loved to reuse drinking bottles into productive things, as plastic bottle planter.

On the other hand, governments should make effective regulation for the use of wastage from homes. Garbage of homes are thrown on roads, canals and in the rivers, which interfere with nature and climatic changes. It distrubs the ecosystem of many living organisms, which may also causes global warming. For Example, in the northern areas of Pakistan, as Naran, whenever people visited these sides, they throw their waste on the roads and in the river. As a result of this wastage, natural beauty and ecosystem distrubs which have many serious side-effects afterwards.

To conclude this notion, I strongly suggest that governments should make legal actions on those people who throw garbages on the roads. Also, they should create awareness to recycle waste products from the home which enhances productivity and quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether laws are needed to increase recycling, but the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive. The writer introduces relevant concepts, such as the benefits of recycling and the negative impacts of littering, but the connection back to whether legal requirements are strictly necessary is somewhat underdeveloped. Sentences like 'Recycling from wastes can be helpul specially for productivity and quality of life' attempt to present a position, but the reasoning remains superficial. Furthermore, the discussion drifts slightly into a general critique of littering in Pakistan rather than sustaining a focused argument on government legislation for home recycling. Overall, the performance aligns with Band 5.5 descriptors, as the task is addressed partially, but ideas require greater extension and support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text exhibits some organizational structure with discernible paragraphs, utilizing basic transition markers such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude this notion'. However, logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts in focus. For instance, the transition from artistic uses of plastic bottles to household waste management lacks seamless flow. Additionally, referencing and substitution are sometimes unclear, as seen in phrases like 'that products' instead of 'those products'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion can be mechanical and repetitive. This places the response firmly within Band 5.0, where organization is present but overall progression and cohesive device management are inadequate or slightly inaccurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it features a limited range and frequent word-form errors. Examples include 'manage wastes' instead of 'manage waste', 'helpul' (spelling error), and 'distrubs' instead of 'disturbs'. The student attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'ecosystem' and 'climatic changes', but inaccuracies in collocation and word choice are noticeable. For instance, writing 'make effective regulation for the use of wastage' rather than 'regulations on waste management' demonstrates a restricted lexical flexibility. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5.0 descriptor for noticeable vocabulary limitations and inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'Some believes' instead of 'Some believe', 'mostly waste in homes are not recycled', and 'make legal actions'. Punctuation is generally basic, and capitalization errors occur (e.g., 'Example'). While the intended meaning can usually be deciphered, complex sentence structures are frequently faulty, leading to a high density of grammatical inaccuracies per sentence. This performance is characteristic of Band 5.0, reflecting a limited range of structures and frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader.
