Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the role of government legislation in household waste recycling, attempting to take a clear position that laws are necessary. However, the development of ideas is often hampered by confusing phrasing, abrupt shifts, and limited supporting explanations. For instance, the mention of 'combust boxes' and bio-gas plants in China lacks clarity and direct relevance to the necessity of laws. While the writer explores the topic from multiple angles, such as public education and strict regulatory enforcement citing Japan, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and disjointed. Overall, the response meets the basic requirements of addressing all parts of the task, but the quality of argumentation aligns more closely with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections. For example, phrases like 'Probing ahead, by addressing the issue from various angels' and 'To recapitulate, recycling is a major problem in recent era' attempt to structure the text but result in unnatural and mechanical cohesion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'they should pay without obeying them,' leaving the reader uncertain of the exact intended meaning. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical progression within paragraphs is weak. These issues place this performance within the Band 5.0 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and often unnatural, containing noticeable word choice and spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'debateable topic' instead of debatable, 'maticulously' instead of meticulously, 'compaigns' instead of campaigns, and 'plethora of mankind'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'environmental sustainability' and 'legal compliance', but these are offset by frequent collocation and lexical errors like 'combust boxes' and 'economy rate of a country development'. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions throughout the text, such as 'Most of the citizen are in the view', 'waste from indoors is recycled', and 'germs which created due to mosquitoes that nurishing'. Furthermore, awkward phrasing like 'this can only possible when authority raise the different laws which enforce on public' demonstrates weak control over sentence construction. Although some simple sentences are communicated successfully, frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5.0 criteria.
