Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count of 250 words, stopping short at 176 words. While the writer touches on the topic of household waste and whether laws are needed, the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. For instance, the suggestion that the government should make people use less plastic is stated simply without any clear exploration of how such a law would function in practice. Furthermore, the position on whether legal requirements are the only solution is not fully sustained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall, reflecting a lack of a clear progression throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical links between sentences are frequently faulty or absent, making the flow disjointed. For example, moving abruptly from plastic usage to pollution and then to financial incentives in the third paragraph creates confusion. Referencing is also unclear at times, as seen with pronouns that lack distinct antecedents, which hinders the overall readability and organizational structure of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range that struggles to cover the topic adequately. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'recycleble', 'increse', 'recyle', 'weat waste', and 'recylable'. These inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical repertoire. The writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary like 'dry waste' and 'dustbin', but these are constrained by frequent lexical lapses and a lack of control over less common items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. Errors are frequent and can distort meaning, such as in the opening sentence 'Some people claim means it is the opinion given by them that waste from homes is recycled it not enough.' There are persistent issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and awkward phrasing, for instance in 'Is the government announce that if the homes gives lots of waste then they paid the money'. These frequent errors place a heavy strain on the reader.
