Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 95 words. Because of this severe limitation, the task is addressed only minimally. The writer attempts to introduce a position regarding whether recycling should be legally required, but the ideas remain extremely restricted and undeveloped. There is a brief mention of home resources and machinery, but these points are not sufficiently extended or supported with relevant examples to satisfy the prompt fully. To achieve a higher band, the writer must write at least 250 words, develop a clear and extended position throughout the essay, and thoroughly discuss the arguments for and against legal requirements for recycling with appropriate examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text demonstrates some basic paragraphing, dividing the introduction from the first body paragraph. However, information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner, and there is no clear overall progression of argument. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inadequate, with transitions between sentences feeling disjointed. For instance, moving abruptly from claiming that recycling is a 'legal process' to stating 'I will explain that laws are important' lacks smooth logical flow. To improve, the writer needs to ensure that sentences are linked logically using appropriate cohesive markers such as 'furthermore', 'however', or 'consequently', and structure the essay with a clear introduction, well-supported body paragraphs, and a proper conclusion that guides the reader seamlessly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing frequent errors in word form and spelling that strain the reader's understanding. Examples include 'recyle' instead of recycle, 'clamis' instead of claims, and 'experenice' instead of experience. The range is limited and minimally adequate for expressing very simple thoughts, with awkward collocations such as 'legal process' used in place of legal requirement. To reach a higher level, the student must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common academic vocabulary, ensure correct word forms (nouns, verbs, adjectives), and eliminate spelling errors. Using precise terminology related to environmental issues and waste management would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures are very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with verb forms, tense usage, and article placement, such as 'recyle is become more useful' and 'People have an not enough resources'. Errors also appear in prepositions and singular/plural agreement, as seen in 'At the homes' and 'many parts waste due to they have an not resources'. Attempts at more complex structures are faulty or missing entirely. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, including accurate complex sentences, and work on fundamental grammar rules such as subject-verb agreement, proper auxiliary verb usage, and correct prepositional phrases.
