Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the need for laws to mandate recycling. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second and third body paragraphs provide reasons related to discipline and environmental protection, some supporting points remain under-developed or briefly stated, such as the general mention that individuals become more mature to clean their environment. Examples given, such as marine life becoming endangered by plastic waste, are relevant to the topic but lack specific depth. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully extended and supported with richer elaboration and more precise real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement with a clear logical structure divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct main ideas. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or faulty, as seen in repetitive transitional phrasing and awkward referencing, such as 'This easy will address my opinion' instead of a standard thesis statement. Additionally, logical progression between sentences occasionally falters due to abrupt shifts in ideas. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions that link sentences and paragraphs together seamlessly without drawing attention to themselves.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to convey the central arguments about recycling laws. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items such as 'ecosystem', 'endangered', and 'legislation', but these attempts are frequently marred by inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and form, such as 'repidly', 'polices', 'matearls', and 'fuana and flore'. Furthermore, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'benefical', 'becuase', and 'impiment'. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To progress, the student needs to expand their control of less common lexical items and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text that cause some difficulty for the reader. Issues include problems with verb forms and tenses, such as 'recycled the home waste is not the solution' and 'i am firmly stands by impiment laws', as well as errors in article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also erratic in places, with misplaced commas and spacing errors. To achieve a higher band, the student must demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and significantly reduce the frequency of grammatical errors across verb patterns, articles, and agreement.
