Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
some folks claimed that the waste from the homes is not being recycled completely and suggest a legal implementation from governments so recycling can be improved, where i feel there is more need of spreading awareness which i will explain in following paragraphs.
To begin with the social responsibility which is on our shoulders to keep our surrounding clean. The waste of our house belongs to us and hence its our responsibility to recycle or dispose it properly,Moving further recycling of home waste is the duty of individual where Governments can facilitate it by providing some support but implementing laws about it could lead to some other problems for citizens like penalities and punishments while suggesting laws about such issue are also a challenge for state to decide on which ground action should be taken.
In regards of the problem spreading awareness and facilitating the system could be benefical like on the state level governing bodies can implement such facilities who can support the recycling procedure for example the wastage collector or collection centers in different areas where recycled or non-recycled item can be distinugish.in addition to it,providing awareness about the items which can be recycled could be benefical as it will help the household to know what are the best ways to reuse the certain items. At this point it should be noted that most of such things happend due to lack of awareness as people they are unaware about the right procedure and their impact on society.
To sum up my word, I feel providing knowledge about the ways and benefits of recycling would help more rather then implementing legal obligations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you believe awareness and practical support are more effective than making recycling legally compulsory. You address both the role of individuals and what governments can do, and the examples of collection centres and guidance on recyclable items are relevant. This gives the response a sound answer to the question. However, the discussion of laws is less fully developed: you mention penalties and the difficulty of deciding when to enforce rules, but do not explain how these concerns compare with the benefits of legal requirements. The awareness argument is also asserted more than demonstrated. To strengthen the response, develop both sides with a specific example and explain why your preferred approach would increase recycling more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs discuss responsibility and practical support, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition to it,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the first body paragraph combines several points—individual responsibility, government support, penalties, and enforcement—without clearly separating their relationships. The long sentences and inconsistent punctuation also make progression harder to follow in places. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, then connect supporting explanations explicitly; clearer sentence boundaries would make the existing organisation more effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycle,” “collection centers,” “awareness,” and “legal obligations,” so the reader can follow the main argument. There are also attempts at more formal expressions such as “social responsibility” and “implementing laws.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “legal implementation,” “the waste of our house,” and “distinguish” where you mean separate or sort. Spelling errors such as “penalities,” “benefical,” and “happend” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than more formal-sounding wording: for example, use “introduce legal requirements,” “household waste,” and “sort recyclable materials.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “as people they are unaware” and a relative clause in “facilities who can support the recycling procedure.” These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “where i feel” does not form a clear grammatical connection to the opening clause, while “the duty of individual” and “its our responsibility” have problems with articles and possessives. Several sentences run together, with missing full stops and commas, particularly in the second and third paragraphs. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with clear subjects and correct punctuation.
