Student answer (Band 4.0)

some people think that not enough of the waste from home is recycled they say that the only way to increase recycleing is for the governments to make it a legak requirement but my opinion is the goverments should incloud recycle trash infront of the houses or in the nerborhood so they know what to throw and what to recycle they should make kids help them recycle so they can learn how to recycle when they are old and they should know how important recycle is and laws need to make people recycle more becouse they will need to burn the trash and thats so wrong for the society we need to recyle more and if we did nothing will be expenseve no more becouse we will recycle stuff so no need to go and get them but not everyting should be recycled some stuff is dangeres to recyle same spones becouse the one who used even if they cleaned it we cant be sure 100% that its still clean but we nned to recycle the plastic so becouse its so dangers when they throw it it end up in the sea and the fishes will die do u know how many turtils are dying just becouse of the palstic we need to stop using plastic and start recycling imporatnt stuff and stop wasting it or buring it becouse we need to make the workd clean and healthy we dint wont to die just becouse we breathe. air and we dont want the fishes to sie thank uu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a relevant position: you support laws to increase recycling and also suggest providing recycling bins and teaching children. You include reasons, such as plastic harming sea life and burning waste being undesirable. However, the response only minimally develops the question of how necessary laws are: it does not explain what legal requirements might involve or weigh laws against education and convenient services. The point about items that may be unsafe to recycle is also unclear. The response is 248 words, so it is two words below the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop your position with a clear explanation and a specific example of how a law could change behaviour.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0

There is a recognisable line of thought, moving from your opinion to practical suggestions and then to environmental consequences. However, nearly the entire response is one long, unpunctuated sequence, so the reader has difficulty identifying where one idea ends and another begins. Connections rely heavily on repeated “and,” “so,” and “because,” and some links are unclear, as in “laws need to make people recycle more becouse they will need to burn the trash.” The discussion shifts quickly from household bins to children, costs, sponges, plastic, turtles, and health without grouping these points. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and conclusion, and connect each point explicitly to the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “recycle,” “plastic,” “society,” “dangerous,” and “healthy,” and the reader can generally identify your environmental concerns. However, the vocabulary is basic and highly repetitive, especially the repeated use of “recycle” and “stuff.” Several spelling errors make the message harder to read, including “recycleing,” “legak,” “nerborhood,” and “turtils.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “recycle trash infront of the houses” and “important stuff.” Build a more precise range for this topic—for example, terms for household waste, collection services, and environmental harm—and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Your response communicates a basic opinion, but grammatical control is limited and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Most of the writing consists of a single run-on sentence, with little punctuation to separate clauses. Sentence patterns are largely joined with “and,” “so,” and “because,” rather than showing a controlled range of simple and complex structures. There are also errors in sentence construction and agreement, for example “if we did nothing will be expenseve no more,” and the final phrase “we dint wont to die just becouse we breathe. air” is not grammatically clear. Practise writing complete sentences with one main idea each, then check clause boundaries, verb forms, and punctuation.
