Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people say that enough waste from their home can not be reused. They argue that government should introduce law to increase recycling. This essay will discuss both views negative and positive.

First and foremost, there are many advantages of recycling the waste product. People can use waste in ulternative way to make it useful. This will directly reduce the pollution. For instance, a soda plastic bottle can be used again and again to store pure water into it. Additionally, a notebook which is used can use again in making decoration things such as, flowers.

Furthermore, there are many drawbacks of recycling waste at home. It can be harmful if same thing used again and again such as plastic. It is also harmful to recycle mirror or iron at home because they need high temperature on which they melt which can not be possible at home. For example. If someone is burning plastic to recycle it and make new product at home it cause many problems such as it release many harmful gas which can directly destory their lungs and can cause many problems.

In my opinion, I totally disagree with the given statement because disadvantages outweigh the advantages. It may cause many health problems to recycle products at home.

In conclusion, there are advantages like, soda bottle can be again used. people can make decoration product from paper. However, there are also disadvanatges such as it may cause health problems and also many product like plastic should not used again and again beacuse there are hamrful bacteria in it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response gives a clear opinion—“I totally disagree”—and includes examples of reusing bottles and paper, but it only minimally answers the question. The task asks whether laws are needed to make people recycle more; instead, most of the essay discusses the advantages and disadvantages of recycling at home, especially the health risks of processing materials there. It does not explain whether legislation would increase recycling, nor develop alternatives such as education, convenient collection, or incentives. The position is therefore directed at the risks of home recycling rather than the role of laws, and the supporting ideas remain limited. To strengthen the response, address the legal requirement directly and explain why you support or oppose it, using relevant examples and fuller reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, an opinion paragraph, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “First and foremost,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” helps identify these sections. However, the progression is not consistently logical: the first body paragraph presents benefits, while the second shifts to dangers, without connecting either discussion to whether laws should require recycling. The introduction promises “both views,” although the task asks for the writer’s extent of agreement, and the conclusion repeats examples rather than drawing together an argument about legislation. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “same thing” are unclear. Organise the body around reasons for your position on laws, and use transitions to show how each reason supports it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, with relevant terms such as “recycling,” “pollution,” “harmful,” and “health problems.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, including “high temperature” and “decoration things.” However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear: “ulternative way,” “store pure water into it,” and “release many harmful gas” are examples. Spelling errors such as “destory,” “disadvanatges,” and “beacuse” are noticeable. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and natural combinations, for example, “reuse a bottle to store drinking water” and “release toxic fumes.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would also improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to add clauses through “because,” “if,” and “which.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to follow. For example, “a notebook which is used can use again” has an incomplete verb construction, while “it cause many problems” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “introduce law” and “many harmful gas.” Punctuation is sometimes faulty, including the fragment “For example.” and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences with controlled clauses. Check verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
