Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.

To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

Recycle Waste:

The topic is about recyling waste from homes. All the people have their own thoughts about that but my thoughts are different beacuse its all depending upon the waste.Mostly every house have different waste some are needed to recycle but some are not by my point of view ,i dont think the laws are needed for that moreover, if some people have that type of waste that needed so it can be recycled they can but i dont know why people are claiming. We have to focus on that point thst all the houses are different , their needed not all have that type of waste that recycle. One thing we can do those houses that want their waste should recycled .They request to government so law just applies on their homes .

Over all in the area i live i saw we dont have those waste that need to be recycled so by focusing on that i explain my points . Mostly the areas which consist of rich people that called high societies they have those type of waste that need to be recycle

On the other hand the societies which consist of middle class. They dont have that type of waste that need to be recycle .

Depending on my point of views :

The people and area matters alot but mostly important the quantity if maximum people have that home waste that can recycled then, the government make the law. We all know majority matters alot the decision took by seeing where the quantity of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a recognisable position: you do not think laws should apply to every household, and you suggest that rules might be used where recycling is more relevant. However, the response only partially answers whether laws are needed to increase recycling. The claim that “some [waste] are not” recyclable is not explained, and the distinction between rich and middle-class areas is asserted rather than supported with relevant examples or reasons. The final point that government should act if “maximum people” produce recyclable waste introduces a condition but does not clarify how this would increase recycling. Develop one clear argument about the benefits or drawbacks of legal requirements, then support it with a specific example and a consistent conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is some basic organisation: you state your view, discuss differences between areas, and end with a point about majority opinion. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas repeat or conflict. For example, you first say laws are not needed, then suggest that government should make a law if most people have recyclable waste, without explaining how these positions fit together. Paragraphing is limited, and phrases such as “Depending on my point of views” do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas. Use a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs for distinct reasons, and a conclusion that directly restates your answer. Connect each example to the claim it is intended to support.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “waste,” “type,” “people,” and “area.” Some phrases communicate your general meaning, such as “the quantity” and “majority,” but several word choices or combinations are unclear, including “their needed,” “waste that recycle,” and “Majority is Authority.” Spelling errors such as “recyling,” “beacuse,” and “thst” also reduce accuracy. These limitations sometimes make the reader work to understand your point. Build a more precise set of topic words and use them in natural combinations—for example, distinguish recyclable materials from non-recyclable household rubbish—and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “every house have,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “some are needed to recycle,” where the sentence structure does not express the intended meaning clearly. In “They request to government so law just applies on their homes,” articles and sentence construction are also problematic. Several sentences run together without reliable punctuation, as in the opening. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clear clauses using “because,” “if,” and “although.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries when editing.
