Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the table’s subject and give a clear overview: Tokyo has the highest annual passenger figure, while Kyoto and Los Angeles are at the low end. You also report the key figures for all six cities, so the main information is covered. However, some comparisons are less fully developed: for example, London has the longest route, but this important feature is not highlighted in the overview or compared with the other systems. The statement that Kyoto and Los Angeles had the “most least” use is also unclear, especially as Los Angeles carries slightly more passengers than Kyoto. Make the overview more precise and select the most notable contrasts across all three measures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the older systems and then the newer ones. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “In addition,” and “On the other hand” help signal progression, and the figures are generally grouped in a sensible order. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control, but cohesion is not consistently smooth: “On the other hand” does not express a clear contrast between the Washington figures and the later cities, and “Lastly” is awkwardly joined to the same sentence. Use paragraph breaks for the overview and detail groups, and connect comparisons by meaning rather than relying on a sequence of formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “route,” “passengers per year,” “launched,” and “established,” and the reader can understand most of the information. However, the range and precision are limited by repeated or unnatural expressions such as “railway system,” “experienced the success in transport,” and “experienced decline in passengers.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including “sytem,” “Paria,” “Loas,” and “sucess.” These do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they reduce clarity and control. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “carried,” “recorded,” and “had the shortest route,” and proofread city names and key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main figures can usually be followed. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “the underground railway system of the Tokyo was highest used” has an unnecessary article and an incorrect structure; “the Paris was second most used” has a similar article problem. The opening detail, “Initially, 1863 in London the underground railway station opened having the route kilometers of 394 experienced…,” is difficult to parse because several clauses and modifiers are joined without a clear grammatical relationship. Use straightforward subject–verb sentences, such as “London’s system opened in 1863 and has a 394-kilometre route,” then vary the structure where it remains controlled.
