Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all six cities and the three categories of data. However, there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For example, you state Paris has the highest route length (199km), whereas the table shows London has 394km. You also incorrectly attribute the dates of opening to the route lengths (e.g., '199 in year 1863'). These factual errors misrepresent the data provided. While you attempt to make comparisons, the confusion between dates, distances, and passenger numbers hinders the clarity of the report. To improve, ensure you carefully map the correct data points to the corresponding categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'moving ahead'. Referencing is also unclear; for instance, the sentence 'which followed by London approximately 394' lacks a clear subject and connection to the previous clause. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence clearly relates to the previous one will help create a more cohesive flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'tarns' (trains), 'vale' (value), and 'peoples'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'data has been calibrated in number and millions'. While you are able to communicate the basic intent, the lack of precision and the repeated errors in terminology prevent a higher score. You should focus on using accurate terminology for data reporting, such as 'figures', 'statistics', or 'metrics', and ensure correct spelling of basic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies on a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('lowest passenger travel are in Kyoto'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction ('in year 1863 in London travel the passengers are 775 millions'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before periods. These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. Focusing on basic sentence structure and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
