Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the data, including the oldest/newest systems and the highest/lowest passenger numbers. You successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between the cities. However, the overview is slightly cluttered with specific data points that would be better placed in the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure the overview focuses strictly on the most significant trends (e.g., the inverse relationship between age and passenger volume in some cases) rather than listing specific years or figures. The report is accurate and addresses all parts of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'while', 'however', and 'meanwhile' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced, such as 'probing ahead' and 'at the fleeting glance', which are not standard academic phrases. Paragraphing is present, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear central theme to improve the overall progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'calibrated', 'accounting for', and 'youngest city'. There are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'different states' (these are cities, not states) and 'older cities' (when referring to the systems). Spelling errors like 'daigram' and 'conversly' also occur. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for data description and ensure consistent accuracy in spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the oldest', 'the newest'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Tokyo was also older cities'), and punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the information, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules such as article usage and ensure that your sentences are punctuated correctly.
