Student answer (Band 5.0)
The table provides the underground railway systems in six cities with their terms of opening date, the length of the route and the number of people in these year.
Overall,Tokyo has 1927 millions pasenger who is the highest number of people with the length of route 155 kilometres in 1927 But In 1981 Kyoto city has the lowest number of passenger with 11 kilometre route than tokyo city.
Paris is the another city who carry 1191 passengers in 199 kilomet.re and the route was opened 1900.But it carries more passenger than london.Because the london route is 394 kilometre and their passenger has 775 millions people in annual year. After that, In 1976 ,the railway system of washington dc has opened but their route was sligtly smaller space than the other routes, like london, tokyo paris. And it has 126 kilometre with 144 million people in annual year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the table, such as mentioning the opening dates, route lengths, and passenger numbers for cities like Tokyo, Paris, London, and Washington DC. However, there are significant factual errors in data reporting and interpretation. For instance, the student writes that Tokyo has '1927 millions pasenger' and that this is in 1927, confusing the date of opening with passenger numbers, and misreads Tokyo's passenger volume (which is actually 1,927 million). Similarly, comparisons between Paris and London are confused, stating that Paris carries more passengers because the London route is longer. While an overview is attempted, these inaccurate comparisons and misinterpretations prevent the response from being fully accurate, placing it at a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organisation with an introduction and a loose attempt at grouping cities in the body paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the transitions between sentences and ideas feel abrupt and mechanical. Words like 'Overall', 'But', and 'After that' are used, but they fail to establish a smooth logical flow. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with a single massive block forming the second half of the text containing multiple disparate ideas bundled together. Referencing is also weak and confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparisons between cities. This corresponds to Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.0 for some attempts at logical grouping.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on terms provided in the prompt such as 'route', 'city', 'passengers', and 'railway system'. There are several word choice and collocation errors, such as 'terms of opening date', 'annual year', and referring to route length as 'smaller space'. Spelling errors are also present, including 'pasenger', 'sligtly', 'ws', and 'cities' where singular was needed. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic facts, though inaccurate control prevents it from reaching a higher band. This performance aligns securely with Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('los angeles ws another cities'), punctuation (missing spaces, stray commas, and capitalisation issues), and awkward relative clauses ('Paris is the another city who carry'). Tense usage is also problematic, shifting inappropriately between past events like opening dates and present descriptions. Many sentences contain structural errors that cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning. These persistent and frequent grammatical errors place the response at a Band 5.0.
