Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Please note that the response does not meet the minimum length requirement, falling short by 8 words (not counting 9 words copied directly from the prompt). Regarding the content, the student addresses the task only partially. While there is an attempt to summarise the underground railway systems, the selection of data is limited and contains inaccurate reporting. For instance, the text claims that Tokyo opened in 1927 with 1927 million passengers, confusing the year of opening with the passenger volume. Furthermore, comparisons are basic and under-developed, such as stating that Tokyo has a large number of passengers and Kyoto a small one, without fully synthesising the wider trends across all six cities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays some organisation, such as grouping cities into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression from beginning to end. Cohesive devices are inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, with frequent reliance on repetitive connectors like 'where as' and a lack of smooth transitions between sentences. Paragraphing is also somewhat erratic, as seen in the grouping of multiple cities in the final paragraph without clear logical sequencing. Pronoun referencing is faulty, leading to confusion regarding which city data is being referenced in certain clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic information about the cities. There are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'tabel' instead of 'table' and misusing terms in collocation. The range of vocabulary lacks flexibility, relying heavily on repeating words like 'passengers', 'route', and 'opened' throughout the text. These errors and the restricted vocabulary range cause some difficulty and hesitation for the reader, preventing a higher evaluation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, mostly relying on simple sentences or attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'Tokyo city have' and 'it have 45 millions', as well as issues with articles and prepositions. Punctuation and capitalization are also inaccurate, with random capitalizations ('Overall, It is evident') and missing periods before transition words. These frequent errors in basic grammatical patterns and sentence construction cause noticeable difficulty for the reader.
