Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, as some information is inaccurate, incomplete, or poorly selected. For instance, the student states that Tokyo 'expand around 126 kilometers', whereas the table shows Tokyo's route length is 155 kilometers (126 kilometers belongs to Washington DC). Similarly, the passenger figure for Tokyo is misreported as 1927, which conflates the opening year with the passenger volume. Furthermore, the summary lacks a fully developed overview, and some details are repetitive or confused, such as the comparison between London and Paris. While a few main features are mentioned, the lack of accurate reporting and limited selection of data prevents the response from achieving a higher standing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with an attempt at an introduction and an overall statement, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The body of the text collapses multiple cities into one dense, run-on paragraph filled with disjointed ideas and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as the repetitive use of 'and its' or 'it was opened'. Paragraphing is not used sufficiently to separate the distinct cities or ideas logically, making the text difficult to follow as a cohesive whole. Referencing and logical sequencing need substantial improvement to guide the reader smoothly through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are spelling errors like 'demostrate' instead of 'demonstrate' and 'Koyoto' instead of 'Kyoto'. Word choice and form inaccuracies also appear, such as writing 'deliverd to 1191 Passengers' instead of delivering 1,191 million passengers, and 'capacity 50 Millions passengers'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data reporting, the persistent errors in collocation, spelling, and word form restrict the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' or 'while'. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on structures such as 'Kyoto was opened in 1981 and it is smallest system in these six cities it is expand around 11 kilometers and its also serve Lowest number of passengers...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, missing articles (e.g., 'the youngest and newest system is Los Angeles it was opened in 2201'), and prepositions. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty and confusion for the reader.
