Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You include information about all six cities and make some relevant comparisons, such as noting that London has the longest route and that Tokyo carries more passengers than the other systems. However, the overview is not clearly separated or developed, and several figures are inaccurate: Kyoto is reported as carrying 50 million passengers, when the table gives 45 million. The claim that Los Angeles is the “most popular city” is unsupported; it has only 50 million passengers, far below the older systems. Some key comparisons are also left implicit, including Tokyo’s highest passenger total and London’s earliest opening. Select the main extremes accurately and summarise them in a clear overview before giving supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a broadly chronological sequence, moving from London and Paris through Tokyo and Washington to Kyoto and Los Angeles, so the reader can identify which cities are being discussed. Basic linking words such as “then,” “however,” and “at the last” also show an attempt to connect information. However, nearly the whole report is presented as one long paragraph, and the repeated “and” links make the progression feel like a list rather than a structured summary. Some transitions are unclear or do not express the relationship accurately. Use a separate overview and group the remaining cities by useful comparisons, such as older, larger systems versus newer, shorter ones.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “routes,” “passengers,” “track,” and “per year,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward: “people travels in the trains,” “the people are traveled,” and “most popular city” do not describe the data precisely. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “kilometets,” “diffrents,” “avarage,” and “aproximetaly,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for accurate, varied terms such as “route length,” “annual passenger numbers,” and “carried,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to combine information in longer sentences, but sentence structures are very limited and errors are frequent enough to make parts difficult to follow. For example, “in the london the open the underground railway” has problems with articles, word order, and verb form, while “people travels” has subject–verb disagreement. Tense and passive forms are also unreliable in “Kyoto was starts the train” and “the people are traveled.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, and several clauses run together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses; check subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, and sentence punctuation.
