Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and report figures for all six cities, including opening dates, route lengths and annual passenger totals. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major factual error: London has the longest route, not the highest passenger total; Tokyo has the most passengers, while London’s 775 million is below both Tokyo and Paris. The claim that Kyoto’s passenger figure “was declined” is also unsupported, as the table gives no trend over time. Comparisons are limited, and some details are inaccurate, such as saying Los Angeles has an 11-kilometre route rather than 28 kilometres. To improve, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and check each figure against the table before describing it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and paragraphs covering the cities. This makes the information identifiable, and grouping two cities in each body paragraph is a useful starting point. However, progression is weakened by the unclear overview and by presenting each city in a repetitive, list-like sequence rather than organising the data around meaningful comparisons. Linking expressions such as “also,” “in addition,” and “as well as” are repeated or used awkwardly, and the relationship between ideas in the overview is difficult to follow. Organise the body around contrasts—for example, older and larger systems versus newer, smaller ones—and use concise links such as “whereas” or “by contrast” accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “underground railway systems,” “kilometers of route,” and “passengers per year.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and frequent inaccurate word choices or collocations make several statements difficult to understand. For example, “London number of passengers per was maximum range” does not clearly express a comparison, while “the strangers per year” is not an appropriate term for passengers. There are also spelling errors in city names and other words, including “Kooto,” “Toyo,” “yaer,” and “passsengers.” Use standard labels from the table and practise precise comparison language, such as “had the longest route” and “carried the most passengers annually.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response is divided into paragraphs. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some information hard to interpret. Examples include “London number of passengers per was maximum range,” “the date opened was 1863,” and “the underground railway systems was spent 199 kilometres.” The overview sentence beginning “While the proportion…” is also incomplete or unclear in its grammatical relationship to the preceding idea. Build accurate basic patterns first, such as “The system opened in 1863 and has a route length of 394 kilometres.” Then use controlled comparisons, checking subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structure.
