Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the table’s subject and include an overview that recognises Tokyo as having the highest passenger figure and Kyoto as the lowest. However, the report only minimally summarises the data: several key comparisons are missing, and some figures are inaccurate or unclear. Tokyo opened in 1927, not 1987, and the route length is omitted; the final comparison ends with “over all route of 3respectively,” which does not report the route figures. The overview also refers to “all years” rather than clearly comparing annual passenger totals. To make the summary more complete, accurately report the largest and smallest route networks, compare passenger numbers across the cities, and ensure each figure is linked to the correct city and measure.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph giving selected details. Linking expressions such as “overall,” “however,” and “in contrast” show an attempt to guide the reader through comparisons. However, progression is difficult to follow because the final sentence combines several cities, opening dates, passenger figures, and route information without clearly matching them. The paragraph also shifts abruptly from Tokyo to Paris and then to the remaining systems. Organise the details into clear comparisons—for example, older and larger systems first, followed by the smaller networks—and use separate sentences so each city’s figures are easy to identify.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “railway,” “route,” “opened,” and “visitors,” and attempt comparison language such as “dominant” and “in contrast.” However, the range is limited, and several word choices are imprecise for describing the table. “Visitors” is not the best term for people using a railway; “passengers” is more accurate. “Dominant proportion of all years” does not clearly express the highest annual passenger total, while “big route” is informal and vague. Frequent spelling errors, including “undergroung,” “paries,” and “wachinton,” also make the report harder to read. Use precise data-reporting vocabulary and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast between Tokyo and Paris. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors in sentence formation and verb forms often make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “the tokyo had the 1927 pasengers” does not form a clear grammatical comparison, and “the visitors was only 1191” has a subject–verb agreement error. The long final sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, particularly around “with over all route of 3respectively.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent. Build shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when combining comparisons.
