IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that one of the best features of being rich is the possibility to help others. I agree with this idea because in my opinion being wealthy and spending money only for yourself is not as satisfing as using it to help other people.
First of all, having an enormous quantity of money obviously make the owner proud of himself. However, in my opinion if money are not also used to help the others, maybe who are in need, the level of satisfaction would be lower. That is due to the happiness most people can perceive while helping other individuals, that otherwise cannot be felt. For example, if a person buy some food for himself, since it taste good, the individual is excited; if the food is bought for someone who needs it, the subject would feel proud and helpful for someone else, two completely different feelings.
Moreover, money owned by a rich individual can be also dedicated to donations. Donations can be created for numerous topics such as helping sick children, homeless people or elderly. People who are able to donate money are usually the wealthiest one, and helping less lucky people can be one of the best thing someone can do in his whole life. For instance, knowing that a people helped someone's daughter or son, which would have not been there without the financial help, it's one of the most rewarding experiences someone can live.
To conclude, I firmly agree with the statement, since helping other people is mainly possible for wealthy individuals. In addition, I believe that being helpful for someone else, both buying food or other items or through donations, is one of the best things a person can experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that helping others is a major benefit of wealth. Both body paragraphs support this view with relevant examples, including donating to support sick children, homeless people and older people. This addresses the task well. However, the discussion focuses mainly on the satisfaction donors gain and gives less attention to the broader claim that helping others is the most important feature of being rich. The point that wealthy people are especially able to help is asserted in the conclusion but could be explained and weighed against other benefits of wealth. Develop that distinction and extend the examples with clearer reasoning to make the argument more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two paragraphs develop supporting reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Signposts such as “First of all,” “Moreover” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, examples generally follow the claims they illustrate. Some connections are less smooth, however. The shift from personal satisfaction to donations is logical but could be linked more explicitly, and the food example’s contrast between buying for oneself and for someone in need is expressed in a long, repetitive sentence. References such as “the subject” and “someone else” also feel vague. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and vary transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic paragraph openers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and express your position, including “wealthy,” “donations,” “homeless people” and “rewarding experiences.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “enormous quantity of money.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “satisfing” is misspelled, “money owned by a rich individual can be also dedicated” is awkward, and “donations can be created” is not the usual expression. Repetition of “help,” “people” and “someone” also narrows the range. Build a bank of natural topic collocations, such as “make a donation” and “support those in need,” and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if money are not also used to help the others” and a contrast introduced by “if a person buy some food for himself.” These attempts show some range, and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction recur: “money … make” should use a singular verb, “money are” should be “money is,” and “a person buy” should be “a person buys.” The long food-example sentence also needs clearer punctuation and structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, then divide long sentences where several ideas compete. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
