IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Today, many people argue about the best way to help others in society. Some people believe that having a lot of money is the most important opportunity to help people. I disagree with this opinion because non-monetary things like time and skills are also very important.

On the one hand, having money helps people in many big ways. Charities and organizations need cash to buy food, clothes, and medicine for poor people. For example, rich individuals can donate large amounts of money to build schools and hospitals. Without money, it is difficult to fix major problems like hunger or disease. Therefore, money gives a powerful chance to support big projects.

On the other hand, I think that money is not the only way to help. People can use their free time and personal skills to support others. For instance, volunteers can teach kids who cannot go to school, or they can help old people in local communities. Furthermore, professionals like doctors can give free medical checkups to poor families. These actions do not need money, but they make people very happy and solve daily problems.
