IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people remarks that the chance to help other people is the most significant thing about being wealthy. This passage completely agree with the statement.

People with more abundance have a lot to spare. They have more than enough to spare and live comfortably. This extra resources can be valuable to someone with less fortune and maybe can significantly change their life. As a human being, wealthy people can share their fortune with people who actually need them. For example, many people are buying a yatch to spend one weekend for fun, on the other hand,

many patients are dying in illness because they don't have the money for treatment. So, moraly this is one's responsibility to help others.

However, in the society the economic distribution is not equal. Some people have more valuables than other less fortunate people. So, it is also everyone's social responsibility to share their resources with others. Because one cannot develop their country if some people stays at the bottom and some people have all the wealth. For example, in Bangladesh there are many people who have thousands or crores in their account and living in a luxury, on the contrary, many people are struggling to even pay their tution fees or even buy one meal. Some people are not even getting their basic rights where other people have too much to spend. If people want to develop a country they cannot let other people fall behind. So, it is also their social responsibility to share their resources with other people.

In conclusion, it is both people's moral and social responsibility to share their abundance with others. So, this passage agree with the statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing supporting arguments. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, as the second and third paragraphs both focus on the concept of 'social responsibility' without introducing distinct new ideas. The ideas are relevant but could be more deeply explored; for instance, the essay focuses heavily on the moral obligation to share wealth but misses the opportunity to discuss other potential benefits of being rich, such as personal freedom or influence. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph introduces a unique, well-developed point rather than restating the same argument in different words.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However,' 'For example,' and 'In conclusion,' but they are sometimes used in a mechanical or slightly repetitive way. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the transition between the second and third paragraphs is weak because the arguments overlap significantly. The use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'this passage,' which is not a standard way to refer to one's own essay. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a distinct focus would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices or minor errors, such as 'Many people remarks' (should be 'remark'), 'This extra resources' (should be 'These extra resources'), and 'tution fees' (spelling error). The vocabulary is generally functional but relies on basic terms like 'people,' 'wealthy,' and 'money.' To improve, you should incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and social welfare, such as 'socio-economic disparity,' 'philanthropy,' or 'redistribution of wealth.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'Many people remarks' and 'some people stays.' There are also errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'a yatch' (should be 'a yacht') and 'in illness' (should be 'from illness'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
