Student answer (Band 5.0)

According to some people the highest crucial thought about being rich is that one has the chance to help individuals. From my perspective, with great wealth comes great responsibilities. The main reason is that we should help to needy people because it's decrease the stress level of needy people. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which prevents a full exploration of the topic and results in an incomplete conclusion. While the main arguments—reducing stress and maintaining societal balance—are relevant, they lack depth and specific evidence. The failure to meet the length requirement is a major constraint on the overall task achievement, as the argument is cut short and lacks the necessary elaboration to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion', but they are often applied in a simplistic or repetitive manner. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors. The abrupt ending of the essay further impacts the overall coherence, as the final thought is left unfinished, making the logical structure feel incomplete.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'help', 'rich', and 'good'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'highest crucial thought' instead of 'most important aspect' and 'finished the worried of person' instead of 'alleviated the worries of those in need'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation and usage prevent the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical inaccuracies. Common errors include subject-verb agreement ('wealth increase', 'this activity maintain'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward phrasing ('when a student about worry to his college fee'). Punctuation is also inconsistent. These frequent errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding, and the range of grammatical structures is too limited to demonstrate the control required for a higher score.
