Student answer (Band 5.0)
Most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. I totally agree with this statement because if person is rich they have money through which they can donate or help where needed . If they are poor they can't help anyone if they need they only think to help they may been in guilt to help others this make them feel regret but person who is rich blessed by huge amount of money he can easily help . He can buy stuff for needy people he can give good he can facilitate to people who are in need he can do whatever he want . He can also help his relative and friend if they are facing crisis . Person can give money to NGO's so they can help people and provide whatever they needed . Being rich means you can facilitate people make their life easy do whatever u want make life much better . Rich people have more opportunities to help people make their life easily . It help people to provide basic needs of life . Rich people can help needy people , give home , provide food and even give clothes and provide operation fee to people who are in need . Rich people have more opportunity which they can easily access through money . They have much benefit than poor people , more opportunity than any one else near them . Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear agreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. While you mention various ways rich people can help, such as donating to NGOs or providing basic needs, these points are not extended or supported with specific examples or logical depth. The essay remains at a surface level throughout, focusing on listing actions rather than exploring the 'extent' of the agreement or considering counter-arguments. To improve, you should aim to structure your response into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the argument, and provide more detailed explanations for your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks paragraphing, which is a significant issue for coherence. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked in a repetitive manner, such as starting multiple sentences with 'He can' or 'Rich people'. The logical flow is hindered by the lack of transition words or logical connectors between ideas. To achieve a higher band, you must use clear paragraph breaks and a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') to guide the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple words like 'help', 'rich', 'money', and 'people'. There is little evidence of less common or academic vocabulary. Phrases like 'do whatever u want' are too informal for an academic task. To improve, you should aim to use more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'help', you could use 'assist', 'support', 'contribute to', or 'alleviate the suffering of'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if person is rich'), missing articles (e.g., 'if they need'), and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'they may been in guilt'). Sentence structures are largely simple or repetitive, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences.
