IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that the primary consideration about being rich is having opportunities to help others. I completely agree with this statement because if you are rich you can easily help others as compared to the poor and middle class citizens. Rich person is should be beneficial for state, society and people. Rich people contribute more in development of society. For instance, wealthy people pay more taxes, play a pivot role in raising up the economy of country by investing in its infrastructure and business. If the affluent individuals do not support or facilitate others what benefit society have of them. High-net-individuals should assist other. For example providing food to poor, investing in country rather then outside, helping needy ones to fulfill their needs and many more . These are the things that make a person rich. Every society need wealthy people that help out others. This bring prosperity and positive impact to community. The primary reason that why I support this view is that if the socio-economically advantaged person do not help others so community really do not need these kind of person . Helping others is the most crucial activity which is done by the rich one's of the society. In conclusion, I strongly agree that affluent people ought to support underprivileged individuals to reduce inequality and also make it possible for poor people's to live life happily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. While you provide examples such as paying taxes and investing in infrastructure, the arguments remain somewhat repetitive and lack depth. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum requirement, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the argument. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or counter-arguments to reach the word count and demonstrate a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'In conclusion', but the transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt. The paragraphing is also inconsistent, with some very short paragraphs that disrupt the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence that logically connects to the next, creating a smoother overall narrative flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'rich' and 'help', and there are some awkward collocations, such as 'play a pivot role' (should be 'pivotal role') and 'raising up the economy'. There are also some minor errors in word form, such as 'High-net-individuals' (should be 'High-net-worth individuals'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions related to socio-economic topics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Rich person is should be beneficial' (incorrect verb usage), 'what benefit society have of them' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'rather then' (should be 'rather than'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes in 'rich one's' and 'poor people's'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
