Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that the most advantage of being rich having the opportunity to help other people . I largely agree with this view because wealth can provide financial security

and allow people to support those who are less fortunate.

Firstly wealthy people can make a significant difference by donating money to charities and helping poor families. For

example they provide Food, clothes and educational materials to people who can not afford them. In addition,

rich individuals can support hospital, schools and other

organisations. such contribution can improve the quality of life of many people and help community develop.

Secondly, having money gives people the opportunity to create job and support economic growth. wealthy business owners can establish new companies and employ workers.

This can help families earn a stable income and become financially independent. Therefore being rich can benefit

society not only through donations but also by creating

employment opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 151 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is far too brief to fully address the prompt. While you have a clear position and provide some relevant points regarding charity and job creation, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting evidence expected in an Academic Task 2 response. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and specific examples to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'Secondly'. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Some transitions are mechanical, and the overall structure feels incomplete due to the lack of a concluding paragraph. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly throughout the entire response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'make a significant difference' and 'financially independent' are used correctly, but there is a lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary. There are also minor errors, such as 'the most advantage' instead of 'the greatest advantage'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific collocations and more precise academic terminology to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('support hospital, schools'), incorrect word forms ('the most advantage'), and punctuation issues (e.g., 'organisations. such'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, proper use of articles, and ensuring that sentences are punctuated correctly.
