Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 102 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The student touches upon the topic of wealth and personal choice but fails to clearly state a position regarding whether the most important aspect of being rich is the opportunity to help others. The ideas are underdeveloped, and the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, preventing a full exploration of the prompt. To improve, the student must provide a clear thesis statement and develop arguments with supporting examples and logical reasoning to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and the transition between the introduction and the second paragraph is abrupt. The text ends mid-sentence, which significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the response. To improve, the student should use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employ linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast' to connect ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'very least amount of people' and 'reach at that point'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas about wealth and philanthropy. There are also spelling errors like 'dicipline'. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include more precise, academic terms related to the topic and ensure accurate spelling and word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The rich also works') and punctuation mistakes. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. The incomplete sentence at the end further highlights the lack of control over grammatical structure. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and incorporating a variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while proofreading for punctuation errors.
