IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The question of whether it is the duty of parents or school to teach newborns how to become a benefecial member of a society has long been a subject of debate. While some people argue that it is the duty of parents to teach children, others believe that schools should teach them become the member of the society. Having considered both arguments, I am inclined to believe that it is parents who are primariliy responsible to help them become mannerred in a society.
A large proportion of people believe that school is the primary medium to become a good citizen. Schools offer structured learning for all children which facililate learning discipline and basic rules-regulations that foster to shape their behaviour. Moreover, meeting with new people enables them to learn about different people and culture which direclty help them to adapt with new environment. Thereby, schools are that institution which directly teaches pupil how to become a responsible citizen. In China, for example, elementary schools curriculum are designed in a way so that they can learn everyday essentials such as how to pass road, how to use bins etc. Without schools, it would be hard for them to respect basic rules and regulations which help them to be a part of a society.
On the other hand, others believe that family is responsible for kids behaviour because they are the first teacher of every children life. Children actually learn about new things by imitating their parents. Consequently, it becomes their responsibility to teach them how to become a good person. It is the parents who teach their child to learn what is wrong or right which facililates moral and strong personality building. As a results, this builds social cohesion, ultimately directing them to become a good member in a society.
In conclusion, although education instituions facililate effective socialization, i believe it is parents who play the most vital role for children to become a resposible member of a society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks about the importance of being rich in terms of the opportunity to help others. However, the essay discusses whether parents or schools are responsible for teaching children to be good citizens. Because the student failed to address the actual prompt, the task achievement score is severely impacted. While the essay is structured as an argument, it does not respond to the specific question asked, resulting in a failure to meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing and a consistent structure. Each paragraph has a central topic, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. Despite the content being irrelevant to the prompt, the internal flow of the argument is coherent and easy to follow. The progression of ideas within the paragraphs is logical, demonstrating a good grasp of essay structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there are several spelling errors such as 'benefecial', 'primariliy', 'mannerred', 'facililate', and 'resposible'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to express ideas clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. There is some repetition of phrases like 'become a good member in a society'. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'teach them become the member', 'first teacher of every children life', and 'elementary schools curriculum are designed'. Subject-verb agreement and pluralization issues are persistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. The punctuation is mostly accurate, but the grammatical slips are noticeable.
