IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Yes i agree this statement because rich do not mean only wealth. A person who has the opportunity to help others can also be rich because people give him prayers and remember in good words that is also wealth. People who help others they have good social circle and when they are in any trouble the people those got help from him are available to help him back. I think that is actual wealth people have in their accounts. On the other side the people who does not help others remained always alone, they can not build social community. In my experience, when i help my friends in their difficult financial time i feel happy and that is my actual wealth. I think my friends are my actual wealth who help me back whenever i need help. Good people who help others in their difficult time are assets. So, worth can be increased by helping others. In past people were very kind to others. They provide some commodities to other people who had not if they had extra in their houses. In my village people were helped others because they were thought if they had difficult time for instance any funeral or in any medical emergency other people will do their help. Sometime they had not physical help to others but only morally they were stand with other people.
In conclusion, people are the actual assets who help others that why i agree this statement. So, people are strength of other people those have mutual consents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by arguing that helping others is the most important aspect of being rich. However, the development is limited. While you provide personal examples, the argument remains somewhat repetitive and lacks a broader perspective on the societal or economic implications of wealth. The position is clear, but the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sophisticated reasoning. The essay relies heavily on personal anecdotes rather than a balanced discussion of the prompt's premise. To improve, you should aim to explore different facets of the argument, such as the responsibility of the wealthy or the distinction between material and moral wealth, to provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the concept of 'wealth' and the personal anecdote about your village is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'On the other side' and 'In my experience'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between 'mutual consents' and the main argument is confusing. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow and readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'good', 'help', and 'wealth'. There are attempts to use more complex vocabulary, such as 'commodities' and 'assets', but these are sometimes used in contexts that feel slightly unnatural or imprecise. For example, 'people are strength of other people' is not a standard collocation. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise synonyms and idiomatic expressions, and focus on using words in their correct collocations to convey your meaning more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people who does not help'), article usage (e.g., 'in my village people were helped others'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'rich do not mean only wealth'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, such as correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like missing 's' on verbs and incorrect preposition use will help improve your accuracy significantly.
