IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this current phenomenon, it is often argued that a range of people believe that being a rich individual means that their most significant duty is to help the people. I considerably believe that wealthy people most priority thing is to help people so i agree with this thought and the reasons will be streamlined in the upcoming paragraphs.
There are many reason for agreeing the view. First and foremost, Helping disadvantaged people. To elaborate it, wealthy people have the ability to donate some amount of the money to needy such as the poor families by giving monthly food supplies, donating money to schools in the town, who do not have good facilities. Moreover, they can also fund the hospital by giving new machines or they can fund scholarship to the brighter students, whose parent have low incomes. Secondly, helping during emergency situations. To put it in other words, they can provide immediate financial support during the natural disaster, war or a pandemic situation. Additionally, they can provide medical supplies, money and many more without seriously affecting to their standard of living.
Furthermore, another reason for agreement is supporting society and solving social problems. To explain it out, wealthy people can make much larger impact on the society than the ordinary people like they can invest in the projects that benefits the community. They can fund the clean water project, education and disaster relief. For instance, recently, a glacier collapse in the Himalayas triggered devasting flash flood in Nepal and considerably many people loss their house and some have loss their lives, so the rich can contributes some short of funds in the relief that help many individuals to recover.
However, there are some who disagree with this view. Firstly, Financial security and family welfare, the most important thing and benefit of having wealth is to have a secure and comfortable life. They can provide high quality of education, healthcare and housing to themselves and their family member and they do not have to worry about the unexpected financial collapse. Secondly, freedom and independence, To explain it out, they have their freedom of spending money on whatever they want. We can not force them to help the needy, they have their choice.
Conclusively, although wealthy individuals have freedom and independence regarding their wealth they have, I believe helping others should be prioritize as they can help in the emergency situation, help to disadvantaged people and also they can support the society by funding the welfare projects.,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of glacier collapses in Nepal. However, the development is slightly uneven; while the supporting arguments are clear, some points, such as the 'freedom and independence' argument, could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and the conclusion is slightly rushed. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question, demonstrating a good understanding of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main arguments and the counter-argument. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore', though some are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. Referencing is generally clear, although some transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it contains a minor punctuation error at the end.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'phenomenon', 'disadvantaged', and 'devastating', which show a good effort. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'most priority thing' instead of 'highest priority' and 'contributes some short of funds' instead of 'sort of funds'. These errors do not impede communication but prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('wealthy people most priority thing is') and article usage ('the poor families', 'the hospital'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings and minor errors that persist throughout the text. Despite these issues, the meaning remains clear, and the errors do not significantly impede the reader's understanding of the arguments.
