IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Many people believe that it is important to being rich if you have opportunity to help others. I completely agree with this statement. There is a well known saying that, "If you help someone in its crises, God will help you in your difficult time."
Helping others is only thing which makes you a real human being, even you belong to any region or cast. People should always think about the people around them. Our region always teach us to help those people who are needy. There are many ways to help others.
First of all, If you see a person in trouble, it is your duty to help them. For example, if someone is injured and you see him in pain. You should quickly call the ambulance or give him first aid. Secondly, Feeding the poor is also a form of help. For example, there are a lot of people in our neighbours who have not enough food to eat. People should think about them and give them food when they need.
People can also help others by donating our old cloths and books. Because, many children can not afford new cloths and books. When someone is sad, giving them happiness is also a from of help. Many people in the world live a sad live because they do not have anyone to talk with. If you meet these people spend time with them.
In the end, I concluded that, helping others is also makes you happy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. While you provide examples of helping others, the link to the specific prompt—that this is the 'most important' aspect of being rich—is not fully explored. The essay is also slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the depth of the argument. To improve, you should expand on why helping others is more significant than other potential benefits of wealth, such as personal security or influence, to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'First of all', 'Secondly'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the concluding sentence is incomplete and lacks a proper summary of your main arguments. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main thesis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'help' and 'people' throughout the text. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'region' instead of 'religion' and 'cloths' instead of 'clothes'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and ensure you are using the correct terminology for the context. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it is important to being rich', 'Our region always teach us', and 'sad live' instead of 'sad life'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and pluralisation to improve your accuracy.
