Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position regarding whether helping others is the most important aspect of being rich. The writer introduces relevant ideas, such as large-scale philanthropy and the foundational purpose of personal stability. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, and the phrasing in the introduction and conclusion shows slight confusion in stance ('culminating inta a well-founded solution'). The main arguments are generally supported with examples like securing healthcare and education. While the development could be more fully extended to reach a higher band, the overall treatment of the prompt is sufficient to meet the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at paragraphing and structuring the response. Logical connectors are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', to guide the reader through the text. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Furthermore, spacing and punctuation errors between sentences (such as missing spaces after periods like in 'rich . for a reason') detract from the flow and visual cohesion of the text. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'philanthropy', 'autonomy', and 'philanthropic'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'alot', 'philnthropy', 'intance', 'ans', 'axienty', 'pratical', 'stablity', 'ade', 'comfort', 'financial wealthy', and 'dusal'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the lexical resource from achieving a higher band. The student would benefit from closer attention to spelling and precise word formation to elevate their writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses ('if a person has money they can secure...'). However, there are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, article usage, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include missing spaces after punctuation marks, missing capitalization ('i m'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward phrasing such as 'accumulation money is to secure a comfort life'. Although the meaning is generally understandable and communication is rarely completely impeded, the high density of grammatical and mechanical errors places this response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
