IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
To be rich is like having an opportunity to help other people is the most crucial statement said by some people.I totally agree with the statement because I found rich people helping other people and also found them to reduce poverty in the area where there are not many resources.
In my opinion it is the true statement because I noticed the rich people that they need to spend money on the poor people so that they can also live their peacefully which ultimately gives comfort and peace to themselves. Some rich millionaires or billionaires think that one day they will die and they need to keep something with them so that they feel relax about the life they were given. For intance, Mr Imran Khan the ex president of Pakistan built a cancer hospital to serve the poor people suffering from cancer and serve the humanity. Mr Beast, a youtuber earn billions of dollars per anum and I found him helping the poor people in a different ways like he announced to dig hundred wells in the Africa or the areas where there is not a permenant water reservoir and by donating money to the old age homes and to the poor people so that they spend according to their needs.
In the end, I want to say that some people do not spend money on others because they think it will reduce their wealth while mostly people serve their wealth to serve humaity and to reduce poverty and in return they earn lessings and peace as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that being rich provides an opportunity to help others, which the writer strongly agrees with. Ideas are supported with examples, such as mentioning Mr Imran Khan building a cancer hospital and Mr Beast digging wells in Africa. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, with generalisations rather than deep exploration. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of argumentation aligns best with a Band 6.0 performance, as the examples are stated rather than fully integrated into a cohesive analytical argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into three paragraphs, providing a basic overall structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes mechanically or inappropriately, such as 'In the end, I want to say that'. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is overly dense and contains multiple distinct ideas that would have been better served by separation. Referencing is occasionally unclear, which creates minor hurdles in reading. These characteristics fit the Band 5.0 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about wealth and charity. However, there is a limited range of vocabulary, with noticeable repetition of words like 'rich people', 'help', and 'poor people'. There are also lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'reduce poverty in the area where there are not many resources' and 'earn lessings'. While the meaning is generally communicated, the persistent errors in collocation and word choice reflect a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex sentences contain grammatical errors. For instance, the opening sentence 'To be rich is like having an opportunity to help other people is the most crucial statement said by some people' is grammatically tangled and difficult to parse. Frequent errors exist in article usage, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a youtuber earn billions'), and preposition choice. Punctuation is also erratic in places. These frequent grammatical errors place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.
