IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
People thoughts about being rich have different perspectives. Some people say that the best part about being wealthy is having the opportunity to help others. And, I totally agree with this view point, the two reasons for the agreement and a counter reason along with conclusion are explained in detail.
When people are rich they don't care much about money, they spend free hand. Due to this reason, they are always open to support others without hesitating to get out of money. For instance, one of my friends belongs to a rich family, not only she support deserving families by byuing them grocery every month but also fund few children by paying thier fees without any worry of getting poor.
On top of that, they play a vital role in upgrading the marginalised sector of the society. Either, by supporting them to get quality education or by setting them a small businees they are developing the society. This can only be done when they have handsome amount of money to spend.
While, some people think that this is not the case. If someone really want to contribute and support others, they don't need to be rich. The sitaution varies from person to person. Having good bank balance can not decide if you have the oppertunity or not.
Altogether, although being rich is not the only criterian to decide the opportunity to play a part in helping others. But, I can not deny that individuals with more money are more helpful to societies compared to others playing a key role in society development without any stress of getting out of money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that you agree with the statement, and you support this stance with relevant arguments regarding financial freedom and societal uplifting. Your ideas are extended and supported, such as when you mention your friend who buys groceries and funds children's fees, and when you discuss helping marginalised sectors start small businesses. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in parts of your body paragraphs, and the inclusion of a counter-argument is slightly abrupt and underdeveloped. Nevertheless, you maintain a clear position throughout the essay, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5, which is best represented here at Band 6.0 due to some under-development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement, and you have attempted to structure it with an introduction, body paragraphs, a counter-argument, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, starting a sentence with 'And, I totally agree...' or using 'While, some people think...' creates awkward transitions and incorrect punctuation. Paragraphing is used, but transitions between ideas lack seamless logical flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun usage in 'not only she support deserving families by byuing them grocery every month but also fund few children'. These issues place your cohesion solidly at Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'marginalised sector', 'financial freedom' (implied), and 'upgrading'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including 'view point' instead of 'viewpoint', 'byuing' instead of 'buying', 'thier' instead of 'their', 'businees' instead of 'business', 'sitaution' instead of 'situation', 'oppertunity' instead of 'opportunity', and 'criterian' instead of 'criterion'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict your lexical score to Band 6, as control over less common vocabulary and accurate spelling is inconsistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('one of my friends belongs to a rich family, not only she support...') and conditional ideas. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'People thoughts about', 'fund few children', 'setting them a small businees', and 'Having good bank balance can not decide'. Punctuation errors also occur, such as inappropriate comma splices and fragment sentences like 'While, some people think that this is not the case.' Because these errors occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader and prevent error-free complex sentences from dominating, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
