IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some argue that the most curcial thing about being wealthy is that one has the opportunity to he someone else. In my prespective, I partially agree with this statement as, being rich does provide the opportunity to help others in need, it also adds more burden and stress over time in one's mental health.
Firstly, becoming rich is itself a time consuming thing. One cannot attain this position just by dreaming about it, it requires hardwork, dedication, determination and most importantly consistency. After that it does enabels one the ability to help others in need. For instance, one cannot help others just by meaning to help them, they need something to help others ans being poor doesnot give you that right. So, being rich is the only option. We have to have the courage to stand for someone else in hteir neeed and that is exactly what wealth provides along with freedom and happiness.
Secondly, being rich doesnot necessarily mean having provided the opportunity to help others. One doesnot require wealth to help others, they can help them with other means such as emotion supprot in their lowest, physical supprot when they are in pain. Economical help cannot provide support when they are down or feeling lonely. For example, when one is in need of emotion support at that time econmical support is of no value. What they need at such time is emotional and physical support to help them climb out of such traum. In this manner wealth can become wothless.
To conclude, although economical support is essential to support one's livelihood, it is also not woth much in some cases. So, being able to lend support and help in need as required by the person is much more important when helping a victim,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the most important thing about being rich is the opportunity to help others. The writer takes a clear position, stating partial agreement, and supports this with two main body paragraphs exploring both the benefits of wealth in providing assistance and the counter-argument that non-financial support is equally or more valuable in certain situations. While the arguments are generally relevant, the development of ideas suffers somewhat from repetition and slight generalisations, such as the claim that 'being rich is the only option' to help people. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, and a clear stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link sentences and paragraphs, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the slightly awkward transition in the first paragraph ('After that it does enabels one...'). Additionally, logical progression within paragraphs occasionally falters due to repetitive phrasing, placing this aspect of the text firmly at Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'determination', 'livelihood', and 'traum'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'curcial', 'he' instead of 'help', 'prespective', 'enabels', 'ans', 'doesnot', 'hteft', 'supprot', 'econmical', and 'woth'. Despite these spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, the errors rarely impede communication entirely. The writer manages to convey their meaning clearly, which aligns with the characteristics of Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling at a Band 6 for adequate lexical control overall.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and concessive clauses ('although economical support is essential...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as missing articles, subject-verb agreement slips ('being rich doesnot necessarily mean having provided'), and awkward phrasing ('being rich is itself a time consuming thing'). These errors sometimes cause slight difficulty for the reader but do not completely obscure the message, matching the Band 5 descriptors where frequent errors persist.
